Discover Fianarantsoa's famous Micheline … one of the last four remaining in the world !

Built by the Michelin tire company in the 1930s, the Micheline is a sort of glorified bus that runs on the rail tracks. With its 19 rattan armchairs, its sculpted bar, and its rubber tires that quietly embrace the rails, the Micheline guarantees you an experience as unique as it is unforgettable.

At the present time, for technical reasons the Micheline is only available for trips between Fianarantsoa and Sahambavy (20 kms). This one-hour trip will allow you to enjoy the lovely countryside and verdant rice fields near Fianarantsoa. In Sahambavy you can visit the tea plantation, or spend the night in the quaint and comfortable bungalows of the Lac Hotel. Come back to Fianarantsoa by Micheline or catch the train the next morning and continue on to the coast.

Customized trips on the Micheline can be organized for your group of up to 19 people by contacting the FCE. At this time there is no regular scheduled service on the Micheline.
